Easy Cover Letters

Cover letters are easy. They are brief introductions to what you do and are good at. They can leave an impression but a lot of times, it is just text in the email and it might be skipped for your actual work sample.

Writers get a lot of practice with cover letters but it might be daunting for voice actors but it isn’t terribly important in itself.

Make it short, to the point. Being memorable is a plus but it is more likely than not that your cover letter will just be used for reference. If any of the following is unfamiliar just skip it in your cover letter.

How to write a cover letter
-write your name and pseudonyms
-Any information specifically asked for by the recipient (their maybe none)
-Your skill
-A specialty in your skill
-How long you have been doing it
-A past job of relevance
-contact info

If you include all of these things, it might be too long. You are really aiming for tweet length. If they ask for specific information, just get that. Don’t add too much.

A recent cover letter of mine

I am Ray Richards. I go by Thought Ray or TheSugarRay online. I have been writing for a few years. I have written two novel drafts and several short stories. My short story Veronica Venom was serialized and published on lasertimepodcast.com (formerly Hulkdick.com). This summer I formed a partnership and started publishing a visual novel Romancing the Sun.

This is a bit longer than normal because the recipient requested information. You don’t want to make them search for the information. You also may want to skip dirty jokes. I keep it in for certain people and because it’s funny and memorable.

If you haven’t already written your cover letter yet, you have already overthought it. Write it now and give this article a few claps while you are thinking.
